| The
olives at Guneemooroo are pressed for oil. The varieties of olives
grown include Frantoio, Corregiola, Nevadillo Blanco, Piquale, Manzanillo,
Kalimata, Verdale and Paragon. The oil has consistently won awards
at the Royal Sydney and Peth Shows.
Jodi
Burnstein and Bruce Haigh own and live on Guneemooroo.
Jodi is a Sydney trained lawyer who manages a welfare agency covering
the central west.
Bruce is a well-known retired diplomat who served overseas and in
Australia from 1972-1994. He was a member of the Refugee Review
Tribunal from 1995-2000. He has written several books on foreign
policy. He writes for newspapers and online magazines. Bruce was
portrayed in the Richard Attenborough film, “Cry Freedom”.
Wildlife abounds at Guneemooroo, with kangaroos, echidnas, long-necked
turtles, blue wrens, pink & grey galahs, sulphur-crested cockatoos,
king parrots, eastern rosellas, grass parrots, wedge-tailed eagles
and an occasional pair of black swans.
DIRECTIONS:
From the clock tower follow the signs to Gulgong. Take the turn
to Hill End, which is 3km from town. Go down the Hill End road for
16km. You will cross a single-lane, white-railed bridge; 50m beyond
is a road to the left. Go down it for 3km. Guneemooroo is on the
right and clearly marked.
