THE GRAPE ALTERNATIVE
The Grape Alternative was one of the first producers of gourmet foods in Mudgee, started in 1997 utilizing the skills of Kathryn & Michael Luçiano. Kathryn’s experience in the Wine & Food Industries, enhanced by a excellent palate ensures the creation of many fine flavours. Michael’s graphic design, marketing and sales experience compliments and combines with Kathryn’s skills to make a great team. The Grape Alternative’s products, wine jellies, gourmet sauces, plum, pear and quince pastes and dessert syrups are all hand made in small batches with the greatest care ensuring the highest quality, winning an impressive tally of awards. To date The Grape Alternative has won 6 Trophies, 23 Gold, 15 Silver & 13 Bronze Medals.
Stop the presses: The Grape Alternative has just won another 3 Gold Medals out of 4 entries at the Royal Tasmanian Fine Food Awards.
Kathryn and Michael have also turned their skills to making four tantalisingly intense flavoured mustards and a range of lemon preserves. Also with their fresh horseradish they have created an explosive horseradish paste and a horseradish dressing (this dressing was one of the Gold Medals won at it’s first showing in Hobart). The combination and balance of ingredients in these products are literally "flavours to savour". These products are marketed under ‘Luçiano’s bit on the side’. Michael and Kathryn are committed to producing quality gourmet condiments, sourcing the best ingredients locally where ever possible, or growing it themselves.
