Mudgee Fine Food Awards
Press Release 29-7-11

Judges fly in to judge our high flyers!

Seven of Australia’s top flight foodies are in town from 31 July to 2 August to judge the National Mudgee Fine Food Awards for 2011.

With three hundred entries representing every state in Australia, this year’s judging will be no easy feat. From tapenade to trout, from mustard to macarons, both local food producers and interstate rivals will be hoping to win the priveledge of displaying a Gold, Silver or Bronze Mudgee Fine Foods Medallion on their products.

In true Mudgee style, our judges are being entertained over a special meal Sunday evening at one of our most beautiful heritage homes, ‘ Woodlands’. Hosted by Mudgee Fine Foods Inc and Robert Stein Wines, the menu created by celebrated caterer, Rachael McCarthy will offer the best of the season’s Mudgee fine foods teamed with a selection of award winning Robert Stein wines. Our judging panel reads like a Who’s Who of the Australian food publishing and regional food business scene.

Jan Boon brings years of experience as a judge with the Royal Agricultural Society. Top chefs, legendary Michael Manners of Manners & Borg, Orange, and Ross Dobson, founder of Café Lewars and co-owner of newly-launched The Union Restaurant serving tapas, at Penrith are both well known proponents of quality regional produce served seasonally at its best. Local chef and sommelier, Rebecca Sutton of Olive.a.Twist, and Peter Davis, proprietor of Newtown Providores, Dubbo, are passionate supporters of regional food and wine. Finishing the lineup are two doyens of Australian food publishing, Suzanne Gibbs, prolific cookbook author and magazine food editor, and Valli Little, Food Director of ABC delicious. Magazine, an international favourite.

Are all the participants in this year’s Mudgee Fine Food Awards impressed by all of this? You be the judge.
